Frynz – Social Networking in Real Time
Frynz is a social app that brings people together locally – through shared interests, real-time communication, and spontaneous meetups. To enable this functionality seamlessly, performance, scalability, and user experience had to work in perfect harmony.
The app was developed in Flutter and runs on a single codebase on both iOS and Android. The backend uses Supabase with PostgreSQL to handle real-time interactions via WebSockets and push notifications. RevenueCat was integrated for monetization, while a Retool dashboard enables efficient management of user content.
Challenge
The project came with high technical requirements, especially in terms of performance and user experience:
- Real-time capability & load behavior: The app needed to handle many simultaneous users – without compromising stability or load times.
- Cross-platform performance: A UI that feels native but is based on a single codebase.
- Matching & card view: Complex user flows still needed to remain intuitive.
- Payment integration: Monetization through subscriptions & in-app purchases, compliant with Apple & Google guidelines.
- Administrative moderation: Content and user data needed to be managed centrally, securely, and efficiently.
Solution
The system was developed entirely in-house and brought to maintenance-ready state within six months. The technical solution is based on a scalable and modular setup:
- Flutter: For high-performance, consistent app experiences on Android & iOS
- Supabase + PostgreSQL: For stable data management, authentication, and WebSocket-based real-time functions
- RevenueCat: Clean integration of subscription models & in-app purchases
- Retool dashboard: For managing user data, community content & moderation tools
- CI/CD pipelines: For fast testing, automated releases, and continuous maintainability
In addition, UI animations and haptic feedback were used deliberately to make the app feel modern, fluid, and premium – while maintaining clear navigation.
